Keep curvy and carry on {getting married!}

Keep curvy and carry on {getting married} So the title of this post caught your attention right? Well, this post is definitely meant for YOU…

I’m a recently married woman you see, who’s always struggled with her weight. At my lowest, I weighed 7 stone 7 pounds and at my heaviest 11 stone 9 pounds so as I’m sure you might imagine, the horror and distress the thought of squeezing into my wedding dress {the day you are meant to look your most gorgeous} caused me.

All my life I’ve put my self-worth, popularity, damn ~ even my intelligence down to how much I weigh and consequently what I think people think of me. I’ve tried every diet under the sun with varying degrees of success and I even went on a boot-camp before I married.

But ladies I want you to STOP, just stop and think about the man you are about to marry, he loves you right? He chose you, just the way you are! My husband proposed to me at my heaviest {what can I say, I was and I still am incredibly happy…}

You know as well as I do that organising your wedding day is a stressful enough event without floggin’ yourself to death to be that elusive size 8 / 10 / whatever…

Don’t get me wrong ~ I’m so happy that I lost some weight for my big day but on the actual wedding day itself I still weighed 10 stone 7 pounds.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be healthier and more toned, but just relax ladies, and breathe… Be yourself, that’s who everyone and most importantly your husband~to~be loves you for… XxX

Are you a curvy bride~to~be? Are you planning to lose lots of weight or are you staying just the way you are? I would love to hear your stories…

  1. Great post Sonia, I totally agree – I see more brides that are too skinny than the other way round. Brides are always beautiful on their wedding day (it’s the happiness shining through their eyes) so (IMHO) should not stress too much about losing bucket loads of weight.

  2. I totally agree with this, but I don’t think the industry as a whole helps. I had my first experience trying on wedding dresses last week in a shop that only stocks “sample size” 10’s. I couldn’t even get an idea of what the dress might look like on me as it was so small. Needless to say I walked out and have no intention of going back there.

    1. Oh Ciara ~ i feel for you. Not nice. I would have thought that they would at least carry some samples in a size 12 / 14. I’m sure my shop had size 12 and 14….xxx

      1. I live in London. The bridal shop I went to last week was actually in Ireland so maybe I’ll have better luck with the shops here! I’m currently a size 14 but hope to be back to my pre-baby size 12 in a few months. But even at that I would still feel massive trying on the teeny tiny sample sizes!

  3. I couldn’t agree more. I lost a bucket load of weight before my wedding years ago. On my photos looking back, I look gaunt and not really me. The best advice I give my brides is to buy an appropriately sized well structured dress. Listen to the dress makers who will make the most of your best assets and help choose dress that suits your figure. If you still want to shape up a bit, then concentrate on toning rather than weight loss. It’s the love of you as a couple and your commitment which will be shining in happiness through your wedding day, not your waist measurements. x

  4. I’m getting married this year and my god I can relate to this article. I’m 5ft6 and a half and my lowest weight has been 9.2 and heaviest 11.6. At the moment I’m 9.10/12 depending on what I’ve eaten! This should be a healthy weight for me but no, I still want to loose weight. Some days I think, you’re ok as you are, but then as soon as I see pictures of myself I think I look fat and feel bad about myself. Being a bride to be just emphasises this to be honest, it makes me highly self critical and extremely body consious, just kowing how many people will be looking at me at one time.

    1. You have got to let this go honey or you won’t enjoy your big day! Your man loves you for who you are, be proud, you’re beautiful and you’ve definitely lost enough weight!!! xxx

  5. Oh I can so relate to this. I spend my life fluctuating between a curvy 10 and an even curvier 14. I only have to look at cake and I’ve put on half a stone. before my wedding I just wanted to try and lose a few wobbly bits, and at the time I was cycling to work, which helped. I lost a bit and was a happy size 12 when we got married in May. Thing is though – the weight I lost has slowly crept back on again, so I feel a bit of a numpty now!!

    1. I piled loads of weight on over Christmas by being greedy :( I’m just gonna ditch the booze and try to be sensible and hopefully it’ll fall off. You looked totes amaze on your day btw gorgeous xxx

  6. My OH proposed to me when I was pregnant 2010 and after having my little boy I put on nearly 3stone( gulp!!!) I joined weight watchers and have lost almost 2( adding a few crimbo pounds!!) I still feel like I need to lose a little to not be a wobbly bride or be disappointed in my pictures that I didn’t try harder!! I know for a FACT my OH likes me a little slimmer but is the sweetest person ever and would never say! The shop where I ordered my dress rang today, argghhhhh my dress has arrived am I even slim enough for my first fitting!?? Why do we feel this pressure, gonna try and loose at least a stone and a half before may( hen do in Majorca!!!) that I hope will make me a comfy 12/14 xxxxxx

    1. Hey lovely, you can only do what you can do. Do not make yourself miserable for months on end!!! I’m sure if you are sensible you can still lose some weight but remember you are the bride and you are gonna look gorgeous no matter what! Just pick a style of dress that flatters your curves and you’ll look fabulous xxx

    2. My situation is quite similar. I put on 3.5stone when pregnant, eeek! I’m 1 stone away from pre-pregnancy weight (was only 10lbs away before xmas, grr!) but I know I can get there with a bit of hard work.

      Did you find it difficult to choose your style of dress not knowing what exact shape/size you’d be come the wedding day?

  7. Hi Ciara!!
    Damn those mince pies hey!?? Hehehe! I generally( size18 or 14) have a certain body shape and have pretty big boobs so with my mum and BM’s help it was pretty easy to choose my dress( first shop I went to), cheesy but true i just knew it was right!! I think we all know deep down what suits us and our body shape! Good luck xxx

  8. I have post-baby boobs and hips that were never there before so its difficult to know whether these will disappear once I lose all the weight or not!
