Morning lovelies! I get so, so excited to share these real weddings with you and today I have a corker! Claire & Toby had a down to earth, Cornish seaside wedding with DIY details and all accented by Claire’s favourite colour, yellow. Their nuptials were undertaken at Lusty Glaze in Cornwall and this part of the world has a very special meaning to our lovely couple…

Since we first met in 2007 we’ve been going to cornwall on holiday every year, it’s a place close to our heart, and Toby proposed at Porthcurno in june 2010.

We sat at minack theatre watching the basking sharks and climbed down to the beach, after some time enjoying the sunshine Toby asked me to rock climb round to the secluded beach as the tide was still in. To my surprise, once we finally managed to climb round {after me moaning and getting rather wet from the sea} Toby got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I said yes and ran straight into the sea and dived in, not really understanding what just happened. We love being by the sea and it was somewhere I always wanted to get married.

I first found the dress when browsing the web to look for inspiration, the first time I saw it I fell in love and in that moment I knew it was the dress I wanted, even before trying it on! I wanted to keep the dress simple and something I would be comfortable in all day. After trying on various dresses before, I knew I wanted something light. I wanted the laid back, summery theme to continue through the venue, dress and day.

I live in flip flops so I knew I didn’t want to spend too much money on shoes. I knew as soon as I said I DO I would chuck them off and put on my flip flops.

We searched around various venues in cornwall and when we found lusty glaze I fell in love instantly and we decided straight away to book a date. Amy and tracey were fantastic and always made us feel welcome every time we visited.

The moment I was about to walk down the aisle was one of the most memorable moments. I was walking with my father and heard m83 outro playing. I looked up and I could see everyone turned to look at me, I had to stop. In that moment I realised that all the people in front of me were here in Cornwall for us! Many guest traveling from far just for the day / weekend. I continued to walk down the aisle and in front of me was Toby. I saw straight away that he had tears in his eyes and tissues at the ready, which thankfully made me laugh rather than cry myself.

We tried to keep the budget low so I decided to do a bit of DIY. I sourced local flowers from a florist in newquay and the evening before made them myself whilst getting my nails done. All the ladies helped which made it even more perfect. i wanted something yellow and I love the classic gerbera shape. They were simple and perfect.

Both Keith and Neda where fantastic on the day and made us all feel very comfortable.

We will always have such amazing mermories, but trust me the day is a blur. Everything happens too quickly and having the pictures to look back on and to see everyone enjoying themselves {moments I was just to busy to see} on the day is amazing.

The images they captured really did reflect toby and I.

We wanted something causual to decorate the venue, something that reflected us as a couple and nothing too staged and extreme. As Yellow is my favourite colour, we chose this colour and accessorised the venue with pretty lanterns and shells!

We were fortunate that our family wanted to help as much as possible, so we decided to ask tobys step mum if she would like to make our cake, and she was very happy to do so. This was something I really didn’t know anything about so I left it in the hands of Hilary to decide what would be best and possible for her to transport to cornwall before the wedding. We decided cupcakes would be perfect. Hilary was a genius and made the larger centre piece in the shape of a sea side bucket. It was incredible. It was yellow in keeping with the colour theme and even had brown sugar as sand and little edible shells on top.

We had cocktails instead of champagne and I also crated my own candy bar by collecting glass jars, bought little sweet bags and a mass sweety buying trip to Costco. The guests loved it, I thought the kids would love it but turns out even my granddad was in the queue.

Lusty Glaze provided our catering in the form of a BBQ. A 3 course sit down meal was just not us, and we wanted something different, so a bbq was a fantastic idea. Beach, bbq and beer… why not. We had a range of Cornish pasties in the evening. Guests loved it.

If I could impart any words of wisdom for future brides? The day goes too quickly, so make sure the photographers you chose capture every special moment. Having both Keith and Neda present, working together was a god send as they took pictures from different perspectives and each had their own style. Make the most of the day.

With us doing as much as possible ourselves we felt more rewarded after the wedding as we had more input and the little things that made it special like the candy bar, flowers, cake, wooden hearts were all done by us or family, which made us even prouder of what we achieved. Getting hands on is great for someone creative.

Looks like an amazing wedding.
