Bloggers Block

30

Running your own blog is awesome. You just whack up some pretty images, write a bunch of stuff about them and hey presto, a marvelous blog post is born. Erm no. Not exactly. There is so much work that goes into running a blog, in fact, you are never, ever, really off duty.

From the research and preparation of posts to the never ending emails, networking and keeping on top of the zillion and one social media platforms. Mixed in with all this you may also want to like, actually have a life… Spend quality time with your husband, family, friends, have the freedom to think a little, ponder even… And then let’s not forget about the day job, the housework, getting your butt to the gym… Shall I go on?

This may not come as a huge surprise. I’ve not been feeling on top form recently, in fact, I have been struggling, doubting and worrying. I seem to have reached a point where I need to change. Something needs to shift. God dammit. I want my mojo back. I want my baby, WTW to be so much better than it is. Bigger. Stronger. More beautiful. I want to feel inspired, energised and proud of every. single. post.

Bloggers Block

I’m taking a step back to regroup and refocus. There’s been a helluva lot going on behind the scenes, WTW is  in the development stage of a re-brand and I’m looking forward to a fresh start. I want to shed my old skin, so I’m reading a lot, trying to learn new skills and preparing myself, preparing myself to come back and come back with a vengeance.

So my fellow wedding junkies, no fear. I will still be posting, after all, I have commitments to you lovely readers, my wonderful sponsors and several projects currently on the go. I just won’t be stressing myself out to post something, every. single. day.

  1. This article is SO true! Everyone assumes it must be so easy, but I spend so much time thinking about what to post, photographing everything when I’m out to post, and then finding the time to actually write it! I identify with everything you say here!! Slightly glad it’s not just me…some people make it seem so easy, so glad you’ve finally spoke out about how hard blogging actually is!! xx

    1. Hi Karen, some people do make it appear so effortless don’t they :) I wish there were more hours in the day to perfect each and every post. Thanks for leaving a comment and I must check out your blog :)) XxX

  2. I totally hear you! People have no idea the time and effort it takes keeping a blog and posting regularly. Like you I work too; sometimes the blog feels like a whole other job, but worse in a way – because it doesn’t end at 5pm. You can always be dealing with your emails or social media. But then again, and above all. It’s a huge honour to create something people enjoy reading. You’re doing a great job so you take all the time you need, we won’t go anywhere.

    1. Hi Anna, thanks so much for your lovely comment! It can get a tad lonely out here as I think unless you actually do it, its hard to understand the level of effort that goes into running a blog, every, single, day. I want to fall back in love with my blog again! I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come and will persevere but try to take it a bit easier on myself. XxX

    1. I think the more you think about it the more you stress about it! It’s a really strange thing but in the beginning I tried not to look at other people’s blogs. 1. as it made me feel intimidated and 2. As I didn’t want to feel influenced by what other people are posting :) I’m trying hard to be involved in the wedding community, be supportive and also to try to learn new skills from other bloggers like a beautiful mess… But I think it’s adding to my block as I want to be as good as them!

  3. Argghh Sonia,

I can completely relate, while trying to get my blog off the ground I have now found that I’m overloaded with what I want to do and say, but struggling with how to say it!

I feel like I need to do more but can’t really put my finger on what direction I want to head in!

Hopefully a week of hard graft on all the other projects I have and getting them dealt with will help me refocus on the blog!

Thank you for being so honest and showing its not always plain sailing with lots of beautiful weddings!

    1. Hi Victoria, it is hard as sometimes I feel like a lonely little hamster on a wheel! Trying to catch up with everything, I always feel like I’m fighting fires. I desperately want some space to think and create! You’ll have to let me know the name of your blog and ill check it out. Good luck sweetie XxX

      1. Often feel like I am glued to my computer screen, am consciously going to make an effort this week to make sure I get time away from the screen and spend it with Mr A and the dog. Maybe Inspiration will hit when you least expect it! Blog address is http://www.faeriewishes.co.uk! :) xx

  4. I can totally relate. As someone who runs two wedding blogs (and two other blogs!), and works full time, I get really burnt out. But my blogs are like my babies and I can’t let them go. So I just do the best I can! It’s good to recognize when you need a break.

    1. Thanks so much for your comment Mindy. I don’t know how you do it! 4 blogs and works full time. Super human ;) XxX

  5. What a very honest blog and even from a florists point of view I too can relate to a fair bit of what you are saying particularly about the bloggers block and how looking at what other people are doing only adds to your stress making it worse. I too am guilty of this but I am so slowly starting to realise that although yes it is good to keep your finger on the pulse as they say, but at the same time you have to be true to yourself and let your own personality/natural flair shine through your work. I think it is a confidence thing that I believe (hope) will come in time.

Thanks for sharing this Sonia and your blog is fab, try not to worry/stress to much.

    Joanne xx

  6. Hi Sonia,

Thanks for sharing this post – I must admit I was one of those who thought running a blog was easy. That was until Showerella launched its own blog. It’s HARD work to run a good blog – but you’re doing a stellar job!
