Enjoy this beautifully poignant and incredibly fun looking Jewish Synagogue | Urban Warehouse: Real Wedding.

Chelm converted to Judaism in order to marry Jake, it’s a lengthy process that usually takes over a year and involves lots of studying and attending Synagogue. This made the entire ceremony all the more emotional, as it represented a long and meaningful journey for Chelm.

Their ceremony was officiated by Rabbi David Mitchell and it involved an ancient ‘Bedeken’ before the ceremony began, when Chelm and Jake saw each other for the first time that day Jake put the veil onto Chelm, and their close family and friends all gave them blessings.

They married in a Jewish ceremony, under a Chuppah (a canopy) which is open on all sides. It symbolises the welcoming home they’ll make together in their future as a married couple.

As part of the ceremony, seven friends each came up to bless a cup of wine which the couple then drank. They each said the traditional Jewish blessing, and also a blessing of their own.

Jake ended the ceremony by smashing a glass with his foot. There are numerous interpretations, (1) It symbolises the destruction of the Jewish temple in Jerusalem, even in happy times we must remember the poignant moments of our past. (2) By smashing a delicate object, it means their marriage is not about materialism, and it is just about love.

Words from Chelm:

Chelm and Jake

We loved the industrial look of Test Bed and we knew it needed jazzing up but didn’t want it to look like a wedding venue.

I bought 150 pom poms all different colours and size which Mum spent hours making.

We got 100s of tea lights about 50 church candles. Asked all our friends to clear out their out of day condiments so we had jars… and hit charity shops for vases.

As the space was so large my friends that were doing the music hired material with fairy lights behind to cut out a large chunk of the warehouse. They also suggested the photo booth which was a huge success.

Jake and Chelm cut their tower cake with a fencing sword and Chelm looks like she’s really getting into it!

The evening started with traditional Jewish dancing, including hoisting them up on chairs.

The wedding ‘ended’ with a bit of an after party at The Doodle Bar. The bridal party got down to loads of old skool garage classics and drum n’ bass beats.
