Happy Tuesday campers! How are you? Super good I hope! At the end of last year I was invited to review a luxury, boutique hotel and rather pretty wedding venue located in East Sussex. The venue? The ever so lovely and the ever so fabulous… The George in Rye!!
The hubs and I travelled down to the picturesque town of Rye on a very wet and windy day. Located a short distance from Camber Sands we were a tad disappointed that it was absolutely tipping it down. Never mind though, it gave us the perfect excuse to indulge ourselves at this very welcoming and very chic boutique hotel.

After exploring our amazing room [sooo Scandi chic and not the room above] we whiled away the afternoon in the elegant and cozy setting of the bar. I of course, indulged in a couple of glasses of prosecco and kept my appetite at bay with some yummy bar snacks.
Back in our room, we refreshed [in the luxury bathroom] and relaxed before our 8pm restaurant booking. If there was one reason alone to visit The George in Rye [which there isn’t], that reason would have to be the food! Beyond excellent. In fact, my lovely husband stated that our main course of chateaubriand was the best steak he had ever tasted. And I would have to agree, absolutely delicious! The red wine jus, is a must try.
So after our michelin worthy meal, we sloped back to our gorgeous room and ordered a couple of cocktails. One of the highlights of my stay was the ENORMOUS tin bath that we filled with hot water and bubbles to enjoy our cocktails in. This was followed by [ahem, let’s keep it clean people] the best nights sleep ever! When I say we sunk into that bed… we literally did! It was heavenly.
The next morning, down in the dining room area, we helped ourselves to the buffet style breakfast. It had everything from scrumptious croissants, fresh fruits and healthy cereals to a full-on, all you can eat, English breakfast.
And finally, after what was a totally relaxing stay, it was time to check out their wedding venue. And my, what a pretty as a picture wedding venue it is too! The ballroom is divine, decorated in the prettiest wallpaper and adorned with gorgeous, sparkling chandeliers. This room seats 125 wedding guests and is the perfect backdrop for your wedding reception – a total girlie girls paradise.
As you can see from the stunning images by international wedding photographer, Anneli Marinovich, it’s certainly not hard to make this venue incredibly stylish and pretty for your wedding party!
And if you’re looking for a more intimate wedding venue, The 16th century, Benson Room accommodates up to 40, comfortably seated guests.
The Benson Room can also be turned into a stylish chill-out room, full of cozy sofas and chairs, or even the place to have your champagne reception if the weather is too wet. If the sun is shining however, you can sip your champers alfresco in the pretty courtyard!
So there you have it then. That’s my review of this gorgeous, oldy worldy wedding venue with a stylish contemporary twist. A great place to hold your reception and especially for couples residing in the South East. Just in case you’re coming from further afield, there are 34 luxurious boutique styled rooms [including a honeymoon suite].
I’d like to say a huge, huge thank you to all the lovely staff at The George in Rye for looking after us during our stay, and to let you guys know that I thoroughly recommend this wedding venue! Do get in touch with them via their website or call 01797 222114 to arrange a viewing, I know you won’t be disappointed!
