Simple Vintage Barn Wedding with Wildflowers and Antique Charm: Kelsie & Ryan

Today’s simple barn wedding has the most adorable details! The lighting and the vintage decor is just darling.

Kelsie & Ryan said their vows under a beautiful tree and this was followed by the prettiest barn wedding reception with gorgeous lighting, ribbons, colourful wildflower centerpieces and vintage decor.

The beautiful, expansive garden grounds with towering trees and its immaculate rustic barn setting immediately nestled its way into our hearts. I knew I wanted to get married under a tree, so the theme unfolded around that and the barn.

We went with a simple vintage barn wedding with wildflowers and antique charm.  An old suitcase for cards, lavender in organza bags spilling out of an antique chest, doilies, bird houses,  and antique books were elements of our decor.

The venue is close to my parents’ house, so my bridesmaids and I were able to get ready and relax at my parents’ house all morning. We even found the time to watch the movie Bridesmaids. It was so laid back and wonderful.

The wildflowers were the perfect whimsical touch that added a bright pop of color.

The Penelope gown I chose by Watters was found found online at bhldn and was the only contender. I immediately fell in love with the soft romantic lace and illusion neckline. When I saw it online, I knew it was the one and bought it on the spot!

Comfortable wedges were a must for me, and the pair I bought at Nordstrom lasted all evening from walking down the grassy aisle to dancing nonstop during the reception!

The groom and groomsmen purchased and wore pants and shirts from Jo S.A. Bank from the travelers line. Madras ties complimented the outdoor wildflower barn theme. Purchasing the pants and shirts allowed the groomsmen to save money and be able to wear the pants and shirt in the future.

My father walked me down the aisle to an acoustic version of ‘What a Wonderful World’.

Each bridesmaid picked out their own dress following a few simple guidelines on pallete color.

The simple single pearl Dogeared necklace was a gift to each of my bridesmaids, and the same one I wore as my something new. Now, all of the women who are special to me own this necklace. I wear it everyday! My mother and I worked together to make the bracelets the bridesmaids, mothers and grandmothers and I wore. I borrowed my pearl earrings from my mother.

My wedding photographer Joni was incredibly sweet and easy to work with. She knew exactly what we wanted and captured the true magic of the day while somehow being invisible. Joni was so well received by guests and was always smiling!

We decorated with old jars, using mason jars for wedding favours, wildflowers, doilies from eBay, and antique books from Midland Antiques.

We decided on a simple sweetheart 1 tiered cake with scrumptious cupcakes for all guests. The cupcakes we displayed on a tiered wooden cake stand my grandfather built.

Dare I say most of the inspiration for the day came from Pinterest? I don’t know what brides did before that site was available!  We did everything DIY over a year’s time and stayed organized, so decor and invitations were done little by little without any headaches at the end. Family pitched in, so when the day came, it was truly a joyous celebration.  

Overall, we wanted a wedding in which all our family and friends would have fun while celebrating with us, that was most important to us. From the cornhole boards my grandpa and uncles made to the candy bar for after dinner snacks, I think we accomplished just that, while staying true to who we are as a fun loving couple.

‘You are the best thing’ version by Eric Shaw, DJ and guitarist was our first dance song.. He took it upon himself to make a special version for us, and we couldn’t have asked for anything more. He made it so special for us!

What was your most memorable moment of the day / evening?

There were truly so many memorable moments. It is difficult to narrow it down to one! Being pronounced as husband and wife for the first time during the ceremony gave me chills, but in the best way imaginable! I couldn’t stop smiling from that moment forward. Also, seeing my grandparents as the last couple standing after the anniversary dance for 61 years of marriage brought tears to my eyes!

If you could impart any words of wisdom to future brides planning their wedding day, what would they be?

This is super cliche, but don’t sweat the small stuff. Seriously. No one will know if the tiniest detail didn’t go as planned. Savor every moment! The day truly goes by so quickly. And if your father is giving a toast, make him WRITE DOWN HIS SPEECH regardless if he says he has it “all up here”. Cheers!
