Elegant Scottish Wedding With Gorgeous Elizabeth Stuart Bride: Kirsty & Stephen

A super elegant Scottish wedding is gracing the Want That Wedding blog today!

Kirsty & Stephen had a humanist ceremony at Kinkell Byre, St Andrews, which included a sweet hand-fastening ceremony amongst the twinkling lights and hand-written ‘3 things I love about you’ vows.

Kirsty wore an elegant Elizabeth Stuart gown that had the right amount of sexy sophistication and teamed it with an opulent ostrich feather cape and an uber glam pair of sparkling louboutins.

Myself and Stephen co-ordinated the wedding ourselves, from the timings, flower arranging to centerpieces and organising all the vendors.

We had a humanist wedding conducted by the lovely Dorothy Nowak. She did an amazing job in the lead up to the wedding helping us personalise our ceremony. Dorothy kept the mood light when tears started to pour, helping us enjoy the emotional moment.

I was keen not to have a very ‘bridal’ wedding look, more of an elegant evening style dress. My worst nightmare is a princess style look-at-me dress and so I searched for a shop that did dresses to suit my taste. ‘Unbridaled’ in Ayr sounded my sort of place, with the tagline being- ‘We Don’t Do Meringues’ This was definitely for me!

I tried on a couple of others first but as soon as I put on the Elizabeth Stuart dress, my decision was made. The silk fabric felt amazing on my skin and definitely gave the sexy glam look I was after. To add a little more flesh I asked for the back to be customised taking out a section of lace and lowering the back. The designer did a great job! Freja Designer in Edinburgh did my dress alterations making adjustments to my size.

My veil was ordered online, a cathedral length veil that hung perfectly over my ostrich feather shrug.

Buying a kilt for Stephen was a big deal and something he wanted to research and put thought into. He decided on the Modern Gunn tartan, a clan relation to his surname Wylie. The kilt was made to measure by Robert Nicol, Dunfermline, Fife. Millsome & Main Aberdeen made the jacket. Both businesses providing excellent service.

Stephen’s best man was Russell Galloway (Nature). Russell and Stephen grew up together and have remained close friends ever since. Russell lives in California now but never feels too far away. It was when myself and Stephen were over in the States that we got engaged, having just spent a wild 4 days together with Russell in Vegas. It was great getting to celebrate our engagement with Russell at the time and we very much appreciate him travelling the 5000 miles for our wedding.

My Grandad John gave me away on the day. He has been a supportive and strong role model for me throughout my life and felt that I wanted him to play a large part in the day.

We walked down the aisle to my cousin Cara singing and playing guitar to a song ‘How Long Will I Love You?’ originally by the Waterboys and most recently covered by Ellie Goulding.

Loraine Ross was recommended to us by a photographer friend. Loraine was amazing start to finish and would highly recommend her amazing talents and attention to detail. Loraine first met myself for coffee in Edinburgh on Sunday afternoon, 3 hours later taking all things photography there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted her to capture mine and Stephen’s day.

Kinkell Byre is a gorgeous but empty byre that can look stunning with the right amount of decor and input. The byre itself is very large with all four rooms needing to be decorated.

I spent months gathering decorative items and arty bits and pieces to turn the byre into something that reflected mine and Stephen’s personality whilst keeping the natural beauty feel of the byre.

I made my own photobooth out of around 100 hand made flowers, each petal being glued on individually to a large sheet that we hung as a backdrop. The props were bought on ebay as well as borrowed from a local primary school.

We had friends and family traveling from many different countries and so reflecting that in the decor was important. We printed out photos of all of our guest to hand on a wall of fame and I made a sign post detailing the milage from the wedding venue to where they lives, highlighting the miles travelled. The winner being our best man Russell who travelled 5159 miles from his home in Santa Barbara.

We also bought a beer pong table to entertain guests throughout the formal photo lul when things can get a bit boring. The beer pong table definitely changed that and was busy the whole night long!

We also had a cup cake stand with around 70 gorgeous cakes in a mix of flavours and designs for guests to have when feeling peckish. The cupcakes were made by my Auntie Grace who is a fantastic baker.

The food theme continued with a popcorn stand and hot chocolate bar which was open all day and night and of course a sweetie bar! The bar was made by my good friend Gary’s mum May Gourlay.

Hands up if you love elegant Scottish weddings and doesn’t Kirsty looking AMaZING in her Elizabeth Stuart wedding dress?!
