Wednesday, May 25, BEBA’S CLOSET presented its new bridal collection, named

“Lucid Dreamers”

Lucid dreamer.(lucid adjective /’lu:sid/)(dreamer noun /’dri:mƏ/)Refers to the ability to travel within a dream on a conscious basis. Such a traveler in a dream may be called oneironaut or lucid dreamer.

Lucid Dreamers began to take shape during Belén Barbero’s visit to the “Enveloped in a dream” exhibition, by the American photographer Olivia Bee in the BernalEspacio gallery. The power of those images that blurred boundaries between dreams, memories and reality, as well as reading some interviews by the young photographer, led Belén to start an intimate and introspective journey.

“Olivia is intrigued by the beauty of everyday life and how the beauty of memories (real or imagined) touches us.”

Months later, Belén added to that journey the concept of “lucid dreams” and the magical and fascinating universe surrounding it, with which she, in some way, identified.

“With this collection, I wanted to explore my endless obsession for the world of dreams and the line between that world and consciousness. I took the concept of lucid dreams as a starting point as well as photographer Olivia Bee’s work to create ‘Lucid dreamers’. It is a dreamlike and translucent journey which encourages us to blur boundaries and venture into our most intimate and free self, the subconscious.”– Belén Barbero –

The play on light and color through embroidery and appliqués, the prominence of the sleeves, and the importance of movement are the central focus of this collection.

Through embroideries that are full of light and subtle hints of color, the dresses explore fantasy, going one step further, giving the designs a freedom that only dreams allow. Geometric beads inspired by Art Deco, contrasting petals which disappear behind strategic folds or delicate flowers embroidered by hand adorn each one of the nine designs that make up this collection.

The design of the sleeves is whimsical, forgetting the rules of the conventional bridal dress, through drapes, and playing with transparency and small details which become the main focus.

Movement is another key aspect. Diagonal drapes, semi layer skirts, juxtaposition of muslins, pleated folds and fluffy gazar create wispy and subdued lines that encourage fantasy by combining transparency and veiled effects.

The campaign for the collection has been photographed by Cecilia and Nieves from Días de Vino y Rosas, for yet another year.

The result is a series of photos that perfectly reflects the dreamlike imagination that Belén Barbero had in mind when designing this collection of bridal dresses. Artistic and evocative images, surrounded by fantasy thanks to light effects, blurring, mixtures of textures and double exposure. Elegant and daring photographic effects, illustrating a collection inspired by the world of dreams.
