Eclectic DIY, Rustic Farm Wedding With Hunter Green Colour Scheme: Amy & Martin

Amy & Martin had lots of ideas of things they wanted to do for their wedding, and that led to an eclectic mix of styles and decoration! They opted to do a lot of the work themselves – especially Martin who’s quite partial to a spot of DIY.

With a hunter green colour scheme for the bridesmaid dresses, their colour palette evolved into a varied scheme with complimenting hessian details which suited their farm wedding setting just perfectly.

I absolutely loved the lace detail on my wedding dress, but what really sold it to me was Chantelle at Shakespeare In Love – she shared my vision of the dress as it would be, and helped me plan the altered neckline.

Martin and his groomsmen wore kilt outfits with rented jackets from Georgian Dress Hire and pocket watches from the Celtic Gift Shop on Etsy.

My bridesmaids wore minimal jewellery – given to them as gifts for the wedding – all from Etsy. They also wore hunter green bridesmaid dresses from Dessy and dried flowers in their hair.

My Dad walked me down the aisle to ‘Best Day of my Life’ by American Authors. I wanted something upbeat and thought this song captured the feel of our wedding. It was a surprise for Martin on the day!

Martin proposed to me in July 2015 on the beach beside our home. We’d been together for around 3 years, having been introduced by a mutual friend while living in Edinburgh.

We absolutely loved having Hayley and Craig photograph our big day. They felt more like guests than our wedding photographers! Their passion for photography really shows in the photos they produce – we love them!

We decorated our wedding venue with 1.2 km of fairy lights!! Which were hung by Martin, myself, and my mum. The draping we used was in fact Wondermesh, an agricultural size insect netting, as this was cheaper than marquee draping.

The stairs into the venue, the photo booth and the bar were all made from old pallets by Martin and our family and friends who all mucked in to help. Martin also made the back lit MR & MRS signs – which we are particularly proud of.

The bunting, which ran the full length of the shed was made by my sister and mum and our centrepieces were colourful glass bowls from TK Maxx with floating candles in them. Across from the top table, we hung wine bottle candle lanterns which we also made ourselves, they turned out really well.

Our cake was from Marks and Spencer!  My cousin (who is a pastry chef and came all the way from Chicago) decorated it with flowers and added a cake topper from Etsy.

We had two wedding favours. One was a pin badge for cancer research UK – the girls were given hens, and the men cockerels.

We also gave everyone a small handmade hessian bag filled with sweets, with a cross stitched design on the front, which were sewn by Amy. Each one had a different colours combination

Our first dance was to ‘Life With You’ by The Proclaimers. It is a song we’ve danced around the house to, and really enjoy. The words to it are really fitting for us. We thought it would get everyone in the party spirit, and up dancing too!

If we could offer any advice we would say…

Try to plan little and often, rather than cramming everything in at the last minute, or having a panic early on and booking everything in haste! We had a huge amount of work to do, and it helped to start early and do bits and pieces as we went.

Our wedding was the Saturday after an extremely wet week, and at times, it felt like it wasn’t all going to come together in time.

Try to stay calm in the lead up to the wedding, and be there for each other – everything turned out perfectly for us in the end, and we wouldn’t change a thing now!

Thanks so much for sharing your super sweet wedding day with the WTW blog!
