Chandeliers & Ostrich Feathers, Glam Boho Wedding in Ibiza: Nicola and Jimmy

Glam boho-brides will absolutely adore today’s villa wedding on the glorious Isle of Ibiza. Interior designer Nicola styled her boho-luxe wedding to perfection, combining elegant ostrich feathers with a statement chandelier and all set against the background of Es Vedra, an islet steeped in mythical magic.

Our wedding planner Amanda at Bespoke Ibiza was phenomenal and really helped us make our dream wedding a reality and organised all activities during the week too, we married at Palaccio Salomon, Cala Carbo in Ibiza.

For me, I have two sides… I love a bit of decadence and glam, I live in London and love getting dressed up for a fabulous night out. But equally, you’ll find me in Brighton in the summer, wearing boho chic and enjoying the relaxed and chilled atmosphere. I often think that’s what I love about Ibiza so much. It has both to offer, the high-end super clubs and amazingly glamorous nights out, to the super-chilled boho vibe and the north and west coast, where our villa was located over-looking the magical Es Vedra.

So to answer the question! The dress was the perfect mix of glam with all the beading and sequins sparkling in the sun, but the design was very relaxed and ‘boho’. It was also lightweight and loose, perfect for the heat!

I walked down the aisle to the song Easter Hymnn, Cavallera Rusticana, The Intermezzo.

I was determined to get married under a chandelier, so it was off to Ebay and a few weeks later it arrived in about 200 pieces! Luckily my step-dad has the patience of a saint and the day before the wedding, put it all together for me. We used it again in the evening under the olive tree to add some glam and it sparkled with fairy lights all around it.

Our wedding photographer Gypsy was amazing to work with, she has this ability to put you at ease instantly, she herself is relaxed and I think that helps. So important if you want natural wedding photos.

She is also great at not taking you away from your guests for too long, or in one hit. So we felt we got to enjoy all of our wedding and didn’t miss a thing! Her ability to capture the light just at the right moment is brilliant.

I’m a bit of creative at heart and love styling as part of my job as an interior designer/property developer. So when it came to flowers and decorating I really wanted to do it all myself and see what I could do!

The other benefit of having faux flowers was in the heat, real flowers wilt very quickly, silk ones stay fresh all day and all week long, in fact, I still have my bouquet in my bedroom at home!

We weren’t sure whether to do these or not… but I had a bit of inspiration when ordering our giant 1m mirror ball for the centre of the dance floor. Jimmy and I love to host parties at our house in London and it was mentioned in our speeches that ‘we always bring our own disco to any party’, with that line of thinking, I found some tiny mirror ball christmas decorations and popped them in little butterfly boxes (the day my Dad passed away, my brothers and I went for a walk in the country and one yellow butterfly followed us around for the entire walk, it was only at the end, that one of us said ‘did anyone else notice…’ and we all said OMG yes! So to us, our Dad is now a yellow butterfly, he pops up on Fathers Day, flew past after Jimmy and I got engaged, it’s amazing!)

So there we are, very personal favours to us, which is what I think they should be. It was so lovely to see our friends send us pictures of their Christmas trees this year, with them dangling on!

The styling of the day was BIG for me, as a stylist; what a place, room, area looks and feels like is very important to me. A  bit like my wedding dress, I wanted to inject some glam into an already glamorous villa, but keep it soft.

I decided very early on that ostrich feathers were the only thing that would work. Having set myself that challenge I bought 500 on eBay and a bundle of silver candelabras and had a great time mocking up the table arrangements at home. Taking it all out there was an interesting experience… but all worth it :)
