An All White Gorgeous Wedding With a Hint of Black: Richard & Anna
Here at WTW it’s not just about the gorgeous couples and their gorgeous weddings… it’s about their LOVE stories too. And I must say I am a sucker for a romantic love story…
So it pleases me no end to say that not only does today’s real wedding have bags of style [such an elegant wedding] and a super gorgeous couple [damn straight!] but one heck of a gorgeous love story too!

I have always known what I wanted for my wedding. I dreamed of my bridesmaids in black, with an all white wedding from being a little girl. So, the planning came really easy.
I knew I wanted an all white wedding with LOTS of candles and white roses, so everything was mainly based around this.
My wedding dress was by Casey Jean and I chose this dress because of the modern feel of the top, the pretty detail of the lace, and then of course the fullness and layered skirt.
My Dad walked me down the aisle to ‘Marry Me’ by Train.
Twenty four years ago, on my first day of pre-school, I was introduced to Richard Downes. His mum allowed him to dress himself, so he was in her necklaces and gumboots.
His story is, that I chased him around the play ground trying to catch him in kissing catcher’s, while I personally think, I was trying to get those necklaces. Growing up we passed each other at the odd swimming gala, or “disco”.
I went on to live in Cape Town for seven year’s, but just over three years ago, fate bought us back together. I moved back to Natal and after meeting Richard for coffee, I knew he was the one.
If you could impart any words of wisdom to a Bride to Be planning her marriage and wedding day, what would they be?
Enjoy every moment. It is the best day of your life, and the actual day goes by so quickly, so enjoy being engaged, enjoy planning your wedding. It is so magical and special.
What was your most memorable moment of the day / evening?
I’m quite shy, so the thought of our 200 guest’s staring at me walking down the aisle was a little frightening for me. I remember saying to myself “don’t cry, don’t cry” but as I got to the end of the aisle and I saw Rich, all my nerves went away.
I will never forget getting to the end of the aisle and just giving Rich a big kiss on the cheek.
Our first December holiday, Rich and I went on was to the Maldives.
From the moment Rich and I started dating, I knew he was “the one”, but that New Year’s Eve the theme on the island was The Great Gatsby, and I remember dancing to Young and Beautiful with Rich and thinking, this is what our first dance song will be one day.
Thanks so much to the beautiful Anna for submitting her gorgeous wedding to the Want That Wedding blog – you’ve got me feeling so emotional here.
Congrats and lots of love and best wishes for a long and lovely marriage!
