An Interview With: Howling Basset Wedding & Portrait Photography!
Happy Tuesday wedding lovers and brides-to-be.
Up on the blog today is an exclusive interview with a fabulously talented wedding photographer and wtw blog sponsor, Andy from Howling Basset Photography.
With many years experience behind the lens, it is such a pleasure to get to know a little more about him as a person and also as a wedding photographer…
WTW readers would love to know about you and your photographic journey…
Started in 1988 working as a photographer on Cruiseships including a long stint on the QE2. Photographic assistant work in New York. Wedding photographer, in the film days, for National Weddings which became Kodak weddings. Started Howling Basset in 2004 (I have Basset Hounds who Howl obvs) I’ve shot very close to 1,000 weddings.
Who or what inspired you to become a wedding photographer?
My Physics teacher started a photography club at school, hooked since then. Went on to do photography at Shrewsbury College this is waaaaay before it was popular; only one college in the county did photography back then.
How would you describe your particular style of photography?
A mixture of every style there is. Formal, informal, candid and reportage … a wedding shot in just one style just looks odd.
If you could go anywhere in the world and photograph any couple who would that be, why and where would you go?
New York and John and Yoko.
What’s your most memorable wedding moment so far?
Surprisingly last Saturday. Bride’s dad just happens to have a helicopter so after the church I rode along with the Bride and Groom.
Breath-taking views and at 150mph in a straight line the 40 min road journey to the reception took 7mins by air.
Plenty of time for the romantic shots and a cup of tea before any of the guests turned up. Highly recommended and sure beats a drone.
Give us 5 facts about you…
1. I have 4 kids from 23 to 3
2. I have 2 Basset Hounds
3. I have 1 German wife
4. I got very drunk at the BAFTAs and bro-manced Simon Cowl
5. MARVEL fan since 1976. Attended the Avengers film premiere
When it comes to selecting a wedding photographer, what advice would you give to brides and grooms?
Experience, experience, experience … oh and avoid “faddy” photography it quickly dates.
I am so happy to welcome Howling Basset Photography to the blog as a wonderful wtw sponsor, and what a great interview! Love getting to know wedding industry professionals and I must admit, I’m a teeny tiny bit jealous of that helicopter ride…
Now, there’s just enough time to pop on over to Howling Basset to see more of their gorgeous wedding photography and to check if they are available to capture your big day. Fingers crossed.
