2020 Wedding Dresses: Paolo Sebastian, The Passage of Spring

 In Dress

In its 13th year, couture house Paolo Sebastian introduces their Spring / Summer 2020 couture collection, The Passage of Spring.

Inspired by Botticelli’s painting Primavera, the collection draws vision from the ethereal nymphs, capturing the mystique of The Three Graces and the organic beauty they bestow.

Unique to the collection and as an allegory to the lush growth of spring, intricate seam-work suggests the formation of petals, while voluminous ruffles and soft, floaty swing dresses bring luxury and romance to the collection.

“The idea for the collection began with a conversation with jeweller Yohannah Westbrook, who uses real flowers and branches to cast her delicate pieces. Yohannah has made an exquisite belt and headpiece which feature in the collection” said designer Paul Vasileff.

Returning to a more delicate colour palette of alabaster, antique rose, hydrangea blue and faded lavender, accents of metallic threadwork and hand-painted silk organza flowers further capture the hundreds of varieties of spring flora found in the painting.

“We have worked with a very soft colour palette in this collection and have introduced a new technique of printed silk organza to mimic the unique pattern of a hydrangea petal,” said Vasileff.

“Like a petal floating in the wind, these gowns were designed to respond beautifully to movement. This collection sees a more voluminous, dramatic silhouette using new a technique of delicately pin-tucked French seams.”

Gossamer-like tulle and intricately embroidered butterflies bring whimsy and romance to The Passage of Spring.
